"The ultimate children's story ever." (David Walliams). Phizz-whizzing new branding for the world's No. storyteller! Exciting, bold and instantly recognisable with Quentin Blake's inimitable artwork. The famous story of Charlie Bucket and his Golden Ticket, and Willy Wonka and his amazing chocolate factory. Mr Willy Wonka, the most wondrous inventor in the world, opens his gates of his amazing chocolate factory to five lucky children. Gobstoppers, wriggle sweets and a river of melted chocolate delight await - Charlie needs just one Golden Ticket and these delicious treats could all be his! Roald Dahl, the best-loved of children's writers, was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. His books continue to be bestsellers, despite his death in 1990, and total sales are over 100 million worldwide! Quentin Blake is one of the best-known and best-loved children's illustrators and it's impossible now to think of Roald Dahl's writings without imagining Quentin Blake's illustrations. Quentin Blake is one of Britain's most successful illustrators. His first drawings were published in Punch when he was sixteen. He has illustrated nearly three hundred books and he was Roald Dahl's favourite illustrator. He has won many awards including the Whitbread Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal. Besides being an illustrator he taught for over twenty years at the Royal College of Art and in 1999 he became the first ever Children's Laureate! Six years later he was awarded a CBE for services to children's literature and in 2013 he was knighted in the New Year's Honours - which means his full title is Sir Quentin Blake, although we can still all go on calling him Quentin as usual.

Great book. My 5 yr old son loves the movie, the old one and the new Depp one. We are reading one chapter per night to him. He just loves it. The umpa loompa songs are great and long and different than the movie. The book just shows how much the first movie missed and the second movie really tried to stay true to the book. Back the book, it has some really cool black and white pics at the beginning of each chapter.......we are almost finished is but I think I know how it ends..."Charlie lives happily ever after"

A Great Book! It was funny and strange. If you have watched the new movie, this is so unlike it. The movie is dark and a little scary, but this book is fun and very imaginative. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie, I'm just saying that this book is very differant . I recommend it for kids 8-13
Publishers Weekly, 2011-09-05 An abbreviated version of Dahl's classic story takes to the pop-up stage, accompanied by Blake's scraggly pen-and-ink caricatures. Gatefolds, mini-booklets, and pop-ups reveal the major plot points of the story ("Two Golden Tickets Found Today!" shouts a headline on a foldout newspaper), with a towering glass elevator on the final spread. Smart use of interactive elements-many of which focus on the grim fates of Charlie's fellow ticket-holders-makes Wonka's already magical world feel even more so. Ages 7-up. (Oct.) Publishers Weekly, 2004-11-15 On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, illus. by Quentin Blake, presents the famous story interspersed with Blake's characteristically frenetic line drawings, with clusters of candy sprinkled across the pages. Pink, lavender, baby blue and yellow backgrounds of the pages make a sugary new wrapper for this favorite tale. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Publishers Weekly, 2002-12-09 In a sublime bit of casting, comedic actor Idle delivers an inspired rendition of Dahl's classic novel, available for the first time as an unabridged recording (an abridged Caedmon edition, read by Dahl, was released in the 1970s). Using expert timing and a seemingly strong familiarity with the material, Idle wrings every note of humor from the author's colorful behind-the-scenes look at Willy Wonka's world-famous chocolate factory. During the course of a factory tour (whose participants were determined by a contest), honest, humble Charlie Bucket beats out four bratty, selfish children to become the heir to Wonka's wonderland. Readers new to Dahl, as well as longstanding admirers of the book or even the feature film starring Gene Wilder, will not want to miss Idle's interpretation of Wonka's whirlwind energy and "high and flutey" voice.
