A huge bestseller in America, David McCullough's JOHN ADAMS tells the extraordinary story of the brilliant, fiercely independent, often irascible, always honest Yankee patriot -- 'the colossus of independence', as Thomas Jefferson called him -- who spared nothing in his zeal for the American Revolution and who rose to become the second President of the United States. Both a riveting portrait of an abundantly human man and a vivid evocation of his time, JOHN ADAMS has the sweep and vitality of a great novel, taking us from the Boston Massacre to Philadelphia in 1776 to the Versailles of Louis XVI, from Spain to Amsterdam to London, where Adams was the first American to stand before King George III as a representative of the new nation. This is history on a grand scale -- a book about politics and war, but also about human nature, love, faith, virtue, ambition, friendship and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.Hide synopsis

The TV series introduced many people to John Adams. A complicated man, Adams contributed a great deal to the founding of our country. If you know about Washington and Jefferson, why not learn about the "other" President. It's a long book, and not always an easy read, but it's well worth it.

I did not read the description carefully and thought I was buying the John Adams biography. I wondered why the price was so low and I found out. It's NOT the biography, it's only a tiny book of information about the biography. I was very disappointed that it was not advertised more appropriately.

Fascinating biography of a brilliant man. John Adams is shown as a real person - not idealized. This book is honest and very well written. I love John McCullogh's books.

McCullough, as usual, writes an interesting historical book--- not a novel-- and in a style that I found easy to read and digest. John Adams is depicted as the typical Yankee farmer with a deep thirst for education and independence for the colonists. He is thrifty, a believer and a prodigious worker ...
