Francois-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), better known by his pen-name Voltaire, is hailed as a genius of the Enlightenment. This philosophical and political movement concerned itself with promoting a free-thinking, rational and scientific way of life. Alongside social commentators such as Locke and Descartes, Voltaire was a champion of logical reasoning, and critical of the largely superstitious and religious attitudes of his time.

Personality Profile For Voltaire

The following is a personality profile of Voltaire based on his work.

Voltaire is shrewd and somewhat insensitive.

He is laid-back, he appreciates a relaxed pace in life. He is unstructured as well: he does not make a lot of time for organization in his daily life. But, Voltaire is also compromising: he is comfortable using every trick in the book to get what he wants.

More than most people, his choices are driven by a desire for discovery.

Considers helping others to guide a large part of what he does: he thinks it is important to take care of the people around him. He is also relatively unconcerned with tradition: he cares more about making his own path than following what others have done.
