"The Whole Truth takes you into the world of created truth and the way it is manipulated by people for their own selfish desires. The story races through the highways of Washington D.C., to the castles of Scotland, down the Italian sea waters, through the streets of London and culminates in a touching finale in a graveyard in Germany. The constant twists and turns in the plot keep you hooked on till the end. It is the battle for 'The whole truth' between one of the richest men in the world, a perception management maestro, a professional assassin and a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with the winner(s) deciding the power equation of the world. It is certainly a few notches above a run of the mill action thriller. David Baldacci is a story teller of a different league."
"I am a bit obsessed with David Baldacci and have read almost all of his books. His "Camel Club" series and the books focused on the main character in the "Camel Club," Oliver Stone, are my favourites, though all of his books are interesting. The main reason I enjoy his writing is because he is a consumate story teller, building up a thriller step by step, until I cannot bear to put the book down.
This book is timely because it deals with "perception management," or PR firms whose sole purpose is to fabricate the "truth" and sell it to the public. It weaves a story that is completely believable, especially in this day and age of 24 hour news and instantaneous communications.
I highly recommend this book to those who are thriller/adveture/mystery enthusiasts. And even for those who aren't!"
"I finished this book only because I started it on an airplane and couldn't find an alternative. After a few chapters it became a little interesting as a story line, but it really was very disappointing ~ especially the writing. I've never found Baldacci to be a very good writer. There's always some clumsiness in the narrative, though the dialog is usually decent and the story line suspenseful and believable. This time, however, it was very poor across the board. The characterization of Katie was pretty good, but the determining factor of her character was so poorly described, so inadequate that she was a little unbelievable; Frank's character made an abrupt switch showing a humane side for no ostensible reason ~ perhaps people are just supposed to change when something bad happens to someone they hate? I don't think so. Or, he didn't hate him? not really? too sloppy. Worse still, the idea that an arms merchant is inherently evil while deluding both himself and the rest of the world ~ how trite, how uninspired, how easy, how p.c. Frankly, I'm almost sorry that I finished it now that I think about it."
"This was a great story! The world's largest defense contractor attempts to manipulate the major powers of the world into international conflicts to insure greater riches and ultimate power, and almost succeeds. It is a global thriller and one of those "oh my gosh, could this really happen?!" kind of books. I would recommend that you totally skip chapter 5 (very rasty!) - it's only 3 1/2 pages and you won't miss any thing but sleeze. I can't figure out why the author put it in. The rest of the book is fine."
