"An incredible Alan Moore graphic novel, (and quite adult!) with the "extraordinary gentlemen": Alan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, the former Mina Harker of "Dracula", Dr. Jekyll and others, banding together as a sort of nineteenth century Steampunk Superfriends to battle evil. In this case it's the "War of the Worlds" scenario mixed in with "The Island of Dr. Moreau." Strange, alternative and brilliant, I'm hooked."
"It was entertaining in it's own way, but not really my taste. If you think you would enjoy seeing the wrinkled ass of Allan Quartermain while he humps Mina Murry, then this is the book for you. As an added bonus, you will also get to witness Mr. Hyde butt-rape the Invisible Man to death. Yes. You read that right. Also, in case you are a huge fan of animal/human hybrid-making mad scientists, Dr. Moreau makes a cameo appearance. The actual story going on in the background involves an invading force of evil Martians, but to be honest, it wasn't very interesting."
"Panda Bears wearing clothes. Aliens. The Invisible Man geetting raped. About six pages of sex scenes with very little actual plot. These are just some of the many problems with this disappoining sequel. This book had its good moments, to be sure, and approached the level of epic tragedy on rare occasions. But not nearly often enough."
"There's an article about Willingham's Fables and his corporalization of fable characters and this book is Moore doing the same for his League. This is Moore at his bawdiest(besides Lost Girls) and funniest. I don't remember being very strongly effected by the first book, probably more to blame on me than Moore, but I really enjoyed this book. Of course, the graphic narrative is only half the book and the prose sections were a bit more trouble for me. At one time I was wondering if the prose piece was just some self-indulgent fun but on reading it the prose section does continue the story and deepen the world of the League, just in a very different way then the graphic narrative section. It reminds me of what Frye called an encyclopedic piece, where a writer is trying to fit as much as he can in a story. I found I enjoyed it more when I read it with this in mind and simply enjoyed the way Moore used so much different source material."
