"A mysterious old man, who calls himself "Jones, not Mr. Jones, just Jones", has a very unique habit of showing up in people's lives just when things look their worst. He is a beautiful old soul, with bright blue eyes and shocking white hair, who never seems to age. He wears jeans, a tee shirt, sandals and carries an old suitcase that he never opens wide enough for anyone to see inside. Jones easily befriends others and shares his gift of being a "Noticer". He sees what others miss, and helps by giving people a different perspective of their problems.
This is one of the most beautiful, heartwarming and inspirational stories that I've ever read. I adored Jones and ended up taking so much from his simple philosophy. When I started this book, I had thought I'd read a couple of chapters and then get on with my daily routine, but I couldn't put it down! It was entrancing, and before I knew it, I was finishing it, knowing that my life would be just a bit different because "Sometimes, all a person needs is a little perspective." A truly touching story that should be read by everyone!"
"The Noticer Sometimes, All A Person Needs Is A Little Perspective By Andy Andrews
This book reminded me a lot of Taylor Caldwell's old classic, The Listener, with a twist. The Noticer might be free street psychology, dispensed by a godlike figure who, in this story, is an ageless intraracial man in jeans and leather sandals, perhaps less objectionable to some than a large black woman baking cookies? Jones/Garcia/Chen shows up when needed and knows just what to do about it. We all need a best friend who knows everything without the responsibility of being known.
Best-selling author and popular motivational speaker Andy Andrews tells about an experience he had as a young adult, an encounter with a man who changed his life. He met this person later on and began to realize what an extraordinary difference this figure made in the lives of everyone he touched.
Andrews offers good life lessons on figuring the whys and wherefores of how we come to be the way we are, whether his central figure is picking up kids from the underside of the wharf or the front porch, or nailing business executives with their bottom-line mentality, or redirecting divorce. The message in his suitcase at the end had a very Billy Jack "One Tin Soldier" feel-good "it only takes a spark" vibe.
I picked the electronic book version to read. Andrews' book is gift-size shorter book. I was parked in my favorite reading place (couch) so it didn't bother me to be hooked up to the laptop. I could have downloaded the book into one of my e-readers programs, but chose the simple pdf file, which was perfectly fine. I spoiled my eyes by enlarging the print to a comfortable size and read away. Although this isn't the first electronic book I've read, I noticed turning pages is a time-waster.
I also wanted to read this book because it takes place in a setting familiar to me: Orange Beach, Alabama. The Noticer would certainly make a nice gift, and I recommend it to people who like feel-good stories, who want to "pass it on.""
""When you focus on the things you need," he went on to explain, "you'll find those needs increasing. If you concentrate your thoughts on what you don't have, you will soon be concentrating on other things that you had forgotten you don't have-and feel worse! If you set your mind on loss, you are more likely to lose . . . But a grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person's life." Jones from The Noticer by Andy Andrews.
The Noticer is a book that is a fiction book filled with the right blend of allegory, inspiration and true story. Andy Andrews takes you inside the small town of Orange Beach, Alabama and introduces you to a man name Jones, not Mr. Jones, just Jones. Jones is a noticer and he notices things about people that they can't see themselves.
In the book Andy talks about how he once lived under a pier until Jones came into his life and taught him to look at his life with a different perspective. He read over two hundred biographies and founded what he calls the seven principles in which he passed his book The Travelers Gift on.
In The Noticer Jones shows people how they can change their life's by looking at things in a different perspective. He taught Andy that there was a great many people before him that had a hard time like he was going through, but because they had a different outlook on life they became people that others admired like Winston Churchill, Will Rogers, and George Washington Carver. Jones impacted Andy's life and Andy became a different person, but Andy also realized that Jones helped a lot of people around his small town.
In each chapter of the book you will find different life scenarios and how Jones helps those people turn their lives around for the better by just taking things in a different perspective. I would have to say that The Noticers is the best book I have read all year. Once I started reading it was so easy to just want to keep reading it. I was learning so much and it was so easy to learn. I am not one to read self help books or many non-fiction books and I would probably never read a book on The Seven Principles, but because Andy Andrews takes what he knows and turns it into a fiction book it makes it so easy to grasp.
If you read this book and don't learn something about yourself and look at life with new eyes, then you really didn't grasp anything he is trying to say. Life is a gift and its your life, and only you have the choice to make it what it truly can be. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Five out of Five stars!"
"Do you need a fresh look at things? Have the issues in your life become mundane? Then take a journey into the book ‘The Noticer: Sometimes All You Need is a Little Perspective“ by Andy Andrews.
In this book, you travel through the lives of ordinary people who encounter a man named ‘Jones’. An unassuming character, but only at first. Once he engages you in conversation, you will never look at things in the same way again.
Very similar to the character “Baggar Vance” in the film “The Legend of Baggar Vance”, Jones enters the lives of several people from many different walks of life, some he approaches respectfully and some in a much more forceful way. His demeanor soon dispels the initial objection of his intended ‘new best friend’.
During these conversations, many popular, modern day ideas are dispelled. Ideas such as ‘experience being the best teacher’ and ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’ which have become household sayings are challenged and scrutinized by Jones’ perspective as he engages you in the conversation.
I must say that while I read (and re-read) this story, I often looked up and around me quietly expecting Jones to appear in my life.
In these conversations, Jones addresses life issues such as the despair of a young orphaned man, the hopelessness of a couple on the verge of divorce, a man contemplating suicide, and the tender thoughts of an older woman withdrawn from a world she believes no longer needs her.
I found wisdom in each of Jones’ dialogues with these characters. My personal favorite new ‘perspective’ was ‘the difference between a mistake and a choice’ and the illumination of the most common ‘love languages’.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks authenticity. You will find life lessons that you may have already learned, lessons you may need to re-learn, and still more lessons you may need to be introduced to for the very first time.
A movement has begun from the publication of this book. It is called “The Noticer Project“. Visit the site today and take a moment to notice those in your life that make a difference.
