"Pretty good, if oversimplified analysis of geopolitics at the end of the twentieth century. Since Huntingdon wrote this, the clash of civilizations has degenerated into the clash of special interests and militant Islam is no longer the spectre it was. Now of interest mainly to slightly paranoid right-wing types."
"This book presents an interesting social theory, but in its attempt to contextualize all conflicts in the world, it relies too much on cultural generalities. In some respects, the civilization categories proposed by Huntington are rather arbitrary and are based more on religion than any other factor that offers social distinction. For a good counterpoint, read "Of Identity and Violence" by Amartya Sen."
"Vomit. Samuel Huntington continues his quest to polarize the world into ridiculous good versus evil, east versus west polarities; he continues the perpetuation of hated of Islam, and those who practice it, clearly ignoring the innocent civilians for whom, their religion is aligned more with service to humanity that suicidal bombing."
"Great, great book. A wonderful primer of where we are today, politically, for anyone who has a poor understanding of the relationship between nations and cultures. He does an excellent job of taking a global snapshot and placing it into (what I believe is) the proper context."
