"Veronica (Ronnie) Miller's life was turned upside down when her parents divorced and 3 years later she is still very angry at them about it...but especially with her dad. She has refused to talk or even see her dad during this time and she has not read one single letter that he sends to her regularly. So, she was very upset when her mother decided it was best for everyone if she and her brother spent the summer with her dad in North Carolina.
Once there, in spite of all her resistance to get to know her dad again, she discovers that things are not exactly as she perceived them to be. Many things happen to change her view on life, and she starts to see who her real friends are.
The book, like most of Nicholas Sparks books, are tear-jerkers...so be prepared with some tissues. It is indeed a love story...a first love, the love between parents and children, and the love of things you do...even when you profess to hate them. Once again Sparks points out the many ways that love can break and heal your heart.
After reading the book...I discovered that it's already being made into a movie for release sometime in 2010 starring Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear."
"In this book there is a girl named Ronnie. Ronnie being from New York has to spend her summer with her Dad with her brother. Now in her Dad's area there are kids who are out for trouble. There were also other people that were kind to her. Then Ronnie cant chose who to backup or to support. It was then she found out that beyond all her troubles and mixups there are more important things to life. She tries to make up for her Dad's disorders and her bad adittiude.
I can connect this to the world where people are accused of something that they did not do and was unfair. In Ronnie's case she was being accused of stealing when someone actually put the disks in her bag. This was a frameup and people do this for revenge, to avoid blame or publicity stunts.
I give this book a five out of five because like other Nicholas Sparks books they are well plotted. Ronnie's friends or enemies all have a bad history against each other. Then using that History they help out Ronnie and create solutions to her problems in court and some other destructive plots. There's also the mystery of why Ronnie's Dad is acting so strange."
"When seventeen-year-old Ronnie was told she'd have to spend the summer with her father in North Carolina, she was less than thrilled. She'd rather spend her time in New York City with her friends at the clubs. Plus, she hasn't even spoken to her father - a former concert pianist - since he left the family three years ago. Why would she want to waste her time being miserable?
In her first days with her father, Ronnie pushes him away as often as possible. She doesn't want him to play the piano in front of her, nor will she *ever* play for him. Ronnie considers returning to New York long before the summer's end.
Things start to change, however, when Ronnie meets a local guy and begins to fall in love. As her relationship with Will grows and develops, Ronnie's relationship with her father begins to heal.
"As usual, Sparks writes a heart-warming story about young love and the love between parents and children. Although it was predictable in many respects, it was still a sweet story. It almost seems that Sparks is writing with a movie deal in mind. Overall, though, I'd recommend it. As usual for Sparks, who is a southern boy, all of his characters are white and they don't seem to know or even come across any one from any other group."
