"For all its purported claims to chronicle the search for the "foundations of mathematics", it's really mostly a light biographical comic about Bertrand Russell. Other major figures (Schweitzer, Hilbert, Gödel, etc.) are dealt with only peripherally. Very little of substance (if anything at all) is conveyed about their actual ideas or what it might mean to establish (or fail to establish) the foundation of mathematics.
"An absolutely stunning graphic novel about Betrand Russell's search for the foundation of mathematics. Along the way we meet Gottlob Frega, Geroge Cantor, and, of course, Wittingstein. They were all nuts, but brilliant. In Doxiadis' portrayal we come to see Russell's momentious discovery that the foundation of mathematics and the foundation of reality are two entirely different projects, something philosophers he repudiated, like Husserl and Heidegger, knew all along. This book is beautifully designed and executed. Couldn't put it down."
"It's always nice to read something different and unusual, and this certainly fits the bill. It's a competent telling of a few bits of the history of modern logic. I would like to have read more about Bertrand Russell's story. The parts about the making of the comic itself didn't work for me at all, and I thought the ending was terrible."
"not sure how it benefits from being presented as a graphic novel, but this was certainly an entertaining account of bertrand russell's struggle to define and maintain his ambition."
