"The Dao of Taijiquan outlines what Tai Chi is and how it explains everything from you and me to the entire universe. It was recommended to me by my Qigong instructor when I asked him how I could better understand the concepts of Yin and Yang. Well, I learned much more than that. The book is full of philosophy, exercises, forms and oral histories.
The material and exercises are deep on many levels and make this book well worth a second or third read. Tremendous internal power can be gained over time by practicing the Tai Chi–outwardly you appear as soft as cotton, while inside you are hard as steel. I know this from first hand experience and can readily demonstrate for other practitioners!
This book will probably speak more to martial artists, but everyone who reads it will benefit to some degree. It clearly conveys Eastern Taoist concepts in terms that we can understand in the West–a credit to the author, Tsung Hwa Jou, for not losing much in translation.
Aside from a few typos, there isn't anything negative to say about The Dao of Taijiquan. Get it and understand more about the universe we live in from the Taoist perspective."
"For those who have already invested at least a year of hard practice & study, this book is your no-nonsense companion to what must be understood.
Just get it. Trust me.
It took me 10 years and the purchasing of 15 other books of varying quality to finally happen upon this one. It is without a doubt one of THE great books for Tai Chi enthusiasts.
At the risk of sounding dramatic, I strongly suggest pacing yourself with this material. It is supersaturated with incredible information which makes it possible for readers to become overwhelmed with their own fascination.
"The Authoritative. He was a physicist, not a writer, so it isn't the easist read. But you can keep coming back to it for years and get more out of it as your practice progresses."
