"I enjoyed this book but it may not be for everyone. It challenges Christian Theology but not for the purpose of destroying it. I found it interesting when the Da Vinci Code came out the authors accused Dan Brown of plagerizing even though he mentioned their book in his. I felt comfortable with the ideas expressed in the book and truly feel Christ's message was strong and needed to be heard not only at that time but now. NO one is actually listening to the message then or now and therein lies the whole problem."
"2*'s seems a bit harsh for this denser-than-all-hell-factopedia. Truly one of the most dense books I've ever picked up. Probably deserves 5*'s. I just can't give it a full rating because I never finished it. I got too lost in the details. Trying to correlate everything, verify facts, people online, ll that stuff just became too hard. And that's what i do when I read a book where the author keeps throwing knowledge at me I've never heard before. I keep trying to validate it in my mind. Sadly, as awesome as the content was in Holy Blood, I just couldn't get passed my OCD of needing to proof all the information I was reading. I'e done this before. Ever read 2012? I actually finished it, but almost ruined it for myself also. Every page was something new to research online and distract me. Overall though, if you're a good skim-reader, I wouldn't hesitate to check out this perfect work for an alternative history. We all knw what they taught us in school. But I think the keen observers of life should not stop at just one Peoples' version of history. Embark on this tale and tell me what you think!"
"I swear if I see one more "just read The Davinci Code" or "it's all just speculation I'm gonna scream." The Davinci Code took one aspect of this book and ran with it. DaVinci gets a four paragraph mention in HBHG that's it. Also the authors tell you from the very beginning that what they are doing is speculating based on things they discovered while researching a little French country side mystery. If you want to just read The Davinci Code then just read the Davinci code. If you don't want to read speculations then why would you ever pick up a book like this?"
"When I first read this book, I loved the idea in the first part, of the bloodline of Jesus being the holy grail. And I loved even more the parts in the second book where Mary Magdalene is exonerated of being a whore and becomes Jesus's wife. We also see Jesus as an extremist who makes himself to fit the prophesies, rather than the divine son of God. But then I found out that a few years after I read it that the whole first part of the book, the part that talks about the bloodline of Jesus and who is part of it today was based upon a hoax by the man who would be at the top of the bloodline list- Pierre Plantard. I thought I had read that the authors knew about the hoax when they wrote or published the book, but I can't find that now- everything says that they were unaware. My question now, is if everything in the first part of the book is questionable and likely false- what about the second part of the book? That is all supposed to be based on actual historical documents- the bible as one, but also the Gnostic gospels and other texts. How do we take this book now that it is so questionable? Does it have worth in ones search for truth? I don't know."
