"hmm. am furiously adding childhood books, and they never have the book cover from the edition i read :) long ago. i loved this book for the adventure and the spirit and, just ralph. i remember considering whether ralph would be a tolerable name for a husband. i must've been about 7. such things like what would his name be seemed more pivotal than if he would actually exist. the book - the book was great. beverly cleary was indeed a genius in her own way. although i seem to remember that i liked the animal books more than her people books."
"another favorite from my childhood, i read it in like, maybe third or fourth grade. i remember being enthralled by the idea of Ralph riding the toy motorcycle and making it zoom around just by making a motorcycle sound with his mouth; and how cool was the ping-bong ball cut in half with an elastic for a strap as a helmet? and his adventures down to the first floor and the kitchen! and when he ventured outside the hotel for the first time, i remember being as tense and terrified as the little guy was ... and felt as grief-stricken as he was when the motorcycle disappeared and then feeling such warm joy at the happily-ever after ending. is anybody writing stuff that is that compelling for kids anymore?"
"Oh, this was darling! Two things I loved best -- that mouse and child knew what the other was saying through a shared love of motorcycles, no other magic necessary, and that the vehicles moved by power of making the proper noises, again with no other explanation. (We had a GREAT time with the noises. They're almost as funny as Harry Hiccups.)"
"My teacher recommended this book to me and I liked it. Ralph is a mouse living in a knot hole of Mountain View Hotel. His friend Keith is staying in Room 215 and has a toy motorcycle. Ralph asks to use it and accidentally gets stuck in bed sheets and can't get it out. Keith understood it was an accident so didn't get mad and they eventually get it back."
