"Owen is very attached to his yellow blanket. It goes everywhere and does everything with Owen. Owen's (nosy) neighbor tells his parent about the blanket fairy, the vinegar trick and how to say "No". She seems to think that Owen should get rid of the blanket. Owen's mom comes up with the great idea to turn the blanket into handkerchiefs. This book is perfect for the child that is having trouble with blanket separation."
"This is the story of Owen and his beloved blanket named Fuzzy. They do everything together! And all is good until a busy body neighbor decrees that Owen is too old for Fuzzy. Full of advice, but lacking in wisdom or compassion, the neighbor dispenses a steady stream of misguided advice which Owen's parents dutifully follow - each attempt to separate Owen and Fuzzy a bigger failure than the last. It's not until Owen's parents listen to their own hearts and minds that they find a solution that works for everyone. I love that this story addresses children's fears and feelings in a lively and entertaining way, but it also reminds parents to trust their instincts when it comes to their own children."
"Owen loves his fuzzy yellow blanket! It goes everywhere with him. However, Owen will be starting school soon and his parents agree that he is too old to take his blanket with him. His parents try many tricks to separate Owen and his favorite blanket. Read to find out if they are successful. Will Owen start his first day of school without his blanket?"
"Loved this Caldecott Honor title about Owen and his beloved blanket Fuzzy! Fuzzy is more than a security blanket for Owen in times of stress--it is also a companion in all manner of childhood adventures of both the real-world and imagination variety. Fuzzy is truly a beloved friend. So when nosy neighbor Mrs. Tweezers hints to Owen's parents that he is too old for his blanket and suggests ways they can help him get over it, Owen's friendship is unfailing--after all, how could Owen allow his beloved companion be taken away by the blanket fairy in exchange for a shiny new big-boy toy? Or ignore Fuzzy just because it was dipped in vinegar? I don't think so! But when it comes time for him to start school, without any advice from Mrs. Tweezers, Owen's mom comes up with the perfect solution so that Owen can keep his ties to Fuzzy while setting out into the wide grown-up world in a style that not even Mrs. Tweezers could object to! Henkes has a remarkable sense of warmth and sympathy for the hearts and minds of young people and his stories constantly impress me with their thoughtfulness and gentle sense of humor and compassion."
