"After reading "1st to Die", I had to dive right into the second book in the Women's Murder Club series, "2nd Chance" by James Patterson.
I cannot say enough good things about this series thus far, each book has been a real page turner! Crime fiction at its best, and centering around kick-ass females. What more could I ask for?
In this book the ladies are shocked when a sniper shoots at choir kids coming out of a church. Miraculously only one child was hit, and killed, despite dozens of shots being fired. They soon find out that the child who died, may not have been a random unlucky one.
As more and more people are being targeted and killed, the ladies wonder if these are racially driven murders or if the sniper is targeting cops.
The women come together to put an end to the senseless killings. Can they make it out of this one unscathed? It seems unlikely once they find themselves the targets."
"If my journeys through the land of literature have yielded at least one constant truth is it this: Sequels are almost always a disappointment to the original. Not so in the case of this the second chronicle in the Women's Murder Club series by the great James Patterson. The story is fluid and consistent, the characters are honest and true to who they were in the first book. The continuity is unbroken, and the development is seamless. In short, I have absolutely nothing about which to complain when it comes to this book, nor the first, nor do I expect to find anything distasteful about the proceeding chronicles. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on them."
"Saya tertarik membeli buku ini karena lagi sale dan kebetulan cukup suka dengan karya Patterson lain yang pernah saya baca sebelumnya (when the wind blows dan salah satu episode Alex Cross yang lupa judulnya). Uh, ternyata mengecewakan sekali. Edisi terjemahan Indonesianya terasa aneh dibaca, dan saya lebih sering menerjemahkan kembali ke bahasa Inggris dalam kepala saya agar tidak terasa terlalu aneh. Ceritanya juga biasa sekali, tentang pembunuhan berantai yang berpola sentimen rasialis. Karakter-karakternya sama sekali tidak menarik dan tidak menimbulkan simpati saya. Barangkali karena tentang ibu-ibu setengah tua, yang tentu sama sekali berbeda dengan dunia saya. Kejahatan pelakunya juga terlalu didramatisir dan terkesan mengada-ada. Definitely not recommended."
"I'd swear I've read this before. Chimera seems familiar. But I'm still going. I love that Patterson is a fast read.
1-8-10 - I swear I've read this before. I don't think I did, because nothing jumped out at me as being deja vu, but the villain name, Chimera, is SO familiar, and I knew halfway through who the bad guy was. I never know the villain in Patterson's books. Or any books, for that matter. I fall for the red herring EVERY time. Maybe it's because I already read 3rd Degree.
That being said, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story. I'm a big Patterson fan. His books are entertaining, easy reads, and I normally get through them fast. The length of time it took me to read this tells me that I'm not reading as often as I usually do. Hmm.
I like this series. The ladies are fun to read about, and Lindsey Boxer is a great, strong heroine. Very enjoyable."
