About this title: "The Tipping Point" is the biography of an idea, and the idea is quite simple: that many of the problems we face - from murder to teenage delinquency to traffic jams - behave like epidemics. They aren't linear phenomena in the sense that they steadily and predictably change according to the level of effort brought to bear against them. They are ...

"The book is touted as a "how things work" type of reading. I was not expecting a formula to turn the world or my life into the next big thing but a reflection on change. Maybe some philosophical/anthropological perspectives maybe some math. This book does not bring anything we do not already know. It is like one of those boring conversation that one has with friends or relatives confirming something that is already known. No new perspectives, insights or challenges."
"Very interesting book. As much fun as talking to someone you've just met, but find you'd love to know better. Took a plane trip across the country and it kept me sane. Presented ideas in new and different ways and left you wanting to talk to someone else who had read it. Took it to a doctor's appointment, and first thing she said was, "oh, you're reading that too, isn't it great?" Would recommend it for any one who wants to get the wool out of their brain. Well worth the time."
"Some interesting anecdotes but way too much exposition. The title says it all - little things make a difference. But you already know that, don't you?
Unfortunately, you can't read this book and discover how to create the next big thing, although that would be really nice. You won't even know how the next big thing became the next big thing, but you'll know that little things made a difference. And so did some people.
But why are you reading sociology anyway? You already know it's impossible to predict how people will behave.... ."
"This is Gladwell's most thorough book. It has everything that I wanted from Outliers and Blink: research, diagnosis, and a clear call to action. Although admittedly, the research is not quite as fun as it is in his two following books.
If I had Gladwell's attention, I would ask him this: How do you capitalize on your role as either a Connector, Maven, or Salesmen? And what if you are none of the above, but rather a part of the phenomenon-following mob? Can you aspire to a different role than the one you are naturally gifted with? I identified with the Maven, as I'm sure most journalists do. So what do I do with that beyond disseminating news and culture? Can a Maven be a trend setter or a Connector? Since I don't have Gladwell's attention, I guess that is rhetorical.
One thing I love about Gladwell is that he presents strong theory and analysis in a way that allows for variance. One of my favorite quotes from this book: "That's why social change is so volatile and so often inexplicable, because it is the nature of all of us to be volatile and inexplicable.""
