"What a delightful story about love. Eric Carle is a notably beloved children's author. We have enjoyed reading many of his books. I'd have to say this one ranks up high for us along with the Very Hungry Caterpillar. An absolute joy to read as my dd's joined in the story telling and acting out the cricket. From an educational perspective, I like how he includes just enough fascinating facts about the insect to keep their attention."
"A classic Carle with colorful illustrations, large text (much of it repetitive), and simple story. Always good for a beginning reader. And they work for reading aloud, too. This one would be especially fun with all of the insect sounds. Unfortunatly, our copy is not working well. When I first tried to read the book, the chirping began before I had turned the first page. I thought my computer was making noises! My co-workers and I were amazed with the book and its sound. However, when I finally got to reading it, I never heard a sound--not even when I was supposed to! And what's said is that the author leaves a note in the back about closing the book so the "cricket's chirp will have a long life." I guess the long life of the chirp is ended. How sad. I was looking forward to the ending."
