"This historical book about pre-World War II in Germany and Austria will keep you on the edge of your seat. I could hardly put the book down! The characters are so real and I could identify with their emotions - fears and relief both. I have learned a lot about how Germans were duped to follow Hitler, and how his doctrine of hate led them to destruction and takeover of anyone who disagreed. I finished this book and immediately started reading it's sequel, Prague Counterpoint, which continues the story with many of the same characters. Here again, I can hardly put this book down!!"
"The whole series of the Zion Covenant is an excellent representation of the tragic experiences the Jews endured during the Second World War. Each volume focuses on a different city but the story continues through all six volumes. Well worth reading!"
"Such a great series- and we all know how I feel about sequels... Ok maybe you don't. I HATE them. These however, kept my interest throughout each book because they each focused on a different character in a different place."
"This is a historical novel that takes place during WWII. Vienna Prelude takes in the beginning stages of the war and when Germany began the take over of Austria. This novel is very well written and I appreciated the historical research that was done for this book.
It's about a young woman who is a violinist with the symphony in Austria. She goes home to her family in Germany during Christmas. Her mother is German but her father is a Jew, however, he had converted to Christianity. He is also a German war hero. The family planned their escape to Austria and then on to Czechoslovakia. The mother and younger boys left earlier. The young woman and her father left later, but the father was detained from the train.
The story continues about their struggles and how other people come in to play to help out. It is interesting how people were caught up in Hitler's plan at the beginning but once they began to see how he really was they wanted out, but there was no out, only death.
Great novel, I hope to read the rest of the series."
