About this title: This military history novel about the bloody and legendary battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, takes the reader into the mind of Robert E. Lee to ask: what if Lee hadn't attacked the Union army but had, instead, taken his army south in a maneuver to outflank the Yankees--and change the course of history.

"I would not recommend this book to anyone not familiar with the actual events. But for those well versed in Civil War history, this is a delightfully well crafted alternate history of the Battle of Gettysburg which can lend some insight into the motivations and actions of the participants that actually occurred in July 1863.
I haven't yet been very tempted to read further in the series. I've found that the farther alternate histories diverge from reality, the less interest they usually hold for me."
"I really enjoyed this book . . . . . Once I learned it was an alternative history!!! I read 3/4 of the book trying to figure out what was going on before I figured it out! I guess I should have read some reviews or maybe just the back cover of the book. But, come on, shouldn't you have to write something on the front of the book or at least a forward to warn your readers? Either way, it was very interesting and well written. I enjoyed it."
"Not a bad read. Any one whos a military history buff has probably looked at this battle and wondered what was going on in Lee's mind. He'd shown himself to ba a master tactician over and over winning battles against overwhelming odds. He'd demonstrated the folly of an infantry charge against entrenched infantry, yet he ordered Pickett's charge. He acted without adequate intelligence. Where he could have side stepped the battle and possibly moved toward Washington he fought a battle that pretty much ended the war as he could not possibly make up his losses while the Union could field more troops than he could imagine even with a loss.
The whys of course will never really be answered for real (at least not here and now) but writers can examine the questions. This is a pretty interesting read and done well. While I don't care for a lot of Civil War fiction (the bloodiest time in our history that only started settling some problems and left a lot of hate...very sad)this is worth looking at for the military implications."
