"Read through the bible a few times and studied various chapters...and believe that no matter what faith you prescibe to there are many lessons to be learned in this amazing text...many things we do and teach out children that have been rooted in these pages. Worth the read if you have time to do it slowly, read the study notes and contemplate. It doesn't read like a novel though so...slow down. :-)"
"This is the Book by which all books and all of life must be read. When we read the Bible we must ask the Holy Spirit to read our hearts. For serious study in English I recommend the NASB. For daily reading in English I recommend the NIV. I especially like wide-margin Bibles so that you can take notes and write comments in the Bible as you read or listen to a sermon."
"I learned that God loves us very much that he sent Jesus as our Savior and that he wants all (everybody) to go to heaven for eternity. God has been taking care of his people ever since they have been on this earth. he protects us and gets us through problems through prayer. It makes God very sad to see when people don't worship him and don't obey his commandments including love one another. It makes God very sad when he sees how humans destroy their lives and the lives of others with drug wars and other wars of greed and injustice to fellow mankind. I learned that God is very patient with all the wickedness of people and still waiting for people to come to him as their one and only God."
"This is the first time I've used a "Through the Bible in a year" Bible. I actually bought this for my husband, but picked it up on New years and decided to try it. Still liking it halfway through the year - although it is certainly hard to keep up with this along with any other Bible study homework at the same time. Because it is chronological, I won't be getting into the New Testament until September 1 (so maybe those other Bible studies are a good thing after all...), but one of the things about going through the Old Testament is reading so many familiar words - that are quoted in the New. I keep my regular Bible and a concordance handy while I read this one so I can make notes and look for the verses that seem to go together - and I've been really making all kinds of connections. Going through the Bible systematically is really making me see how it's all one big story!
The Psalms are a great example. Instead of having a long songbook in the middle of the Bible, this Bible has Psalms sprinkled throughout, placed according to subject matter or the people mentioned in the headings. So while you read about David's life, you get to see what he was praying during certain times in his life. Fascinating.
I might not pick this one up again after this year except as a reference book, but it's been quite a fun journey so far!"
