"This is a really well written biography of a pioneer girl who is too much of a tomboy for her mother to bear, and it really shows how much she has to go through just because she would rather hunt then sew, or plow than bake. It is really funny how much trouble she gets in, and gives you an insight to what life as a pioneer tomboy was like. And her father and brothers are the only ones who beleive in her, will she continue being a tomboy, or will her mother get her way?, read the book to find out..."
"The Newbery Award committee members seem to love a strong girl and Caddie is among the strongest. She roams and tarries with her ruffian brothers on the wild plains of Wisconsin around the time of the American Civil War. Caddie plays practical jokes on her cousin, runs to the Indians to warn of a massacre, and proudly displays an Indian scalp belt for all the town to see. Caddie finally begins to see that becoming a lady is not just learning to quilt and say the right words and wear fancy clothes."
"I got this book as a prize for a writing/illustrating contest in the third grade. Caddie and her siblings have such wonderful adventures on their farm in (I think) Wisconsin. Caddie is a tomboy and always getting into trouble. She almost drowns in the river, she plays mean tricks on her stuck-up cousin, and she makes friends with Indians and averts a settler/Indian war. And the stories are true. That's what makes them fun."
"This book was read to my fifth grade class a chapter a day after recess. I have read it many times since. I usually give this as a gift to young ones at some point. I would read this instead of Little House on the Prairie (which never could keep me interest). Caddie, who's real name is Caroline Augusta, was being raised to be a proper young lady. You will find that the name Caddie was more suited to her because she was a real tomboy and could more than keep up with her brothers. She just seemed to be drawn to trouble but always with good intent."
