"I loved this book, and thought it was very comprehensive and easy-to-read. Of course, this comes from the perspective of someone who knew absolutely nothing about root cellaring before I read the book. There are black and white photos and diagrams that show you how to build a root cellar, but you may have to do some supplemental research."
"This book was first written in the '70s, and the updated versions did not get the skill of a good editor. The old pics and the overall philosophy are quaintly Mother Earth News and the '70s "back to the earth"/scrounger movement. Each chapter seems to have been written by a different person, with a different audience in mind. There are about 3 chapters in the middle with useful, basic info. I could do without the silly recipes at the back (they ARE silly, like whole-earth-hamburger-helper). This book wanders and never quite seems to reach a goal. I recommend this as a "skimmer" from the library. It does pull some useful info together in one place."
