About this title: When a stranger named Marsuvees Black appears in Paradise, he brings with him a message of hope and love. Or is it death and hate? Black seems to know too much about the town's many unspoken secrets, and he himself holds the greatest secret of them all. It quickly becomes apparent that Paradise is being isolated for a reason.

"Dekker's novels always center around the good vs. evil theme and Showdown is no exception. This is, however, more graphic in regards to violence and would be a great pick for someone who likes suspense with a little macabre flair. (Of course, I am a notorious wuss when it comes to gore!)
A "gunslinger" named Marsuvees Black shows up in a quiet little town, Paradise, CO. He promised hope and grace to all who listen and follow. A young boy, Johnny, isn't quite sure whether or not Black is who he claims to be and sets out to investigate.
Meanwhile, in a nearby secret monastery, children are secluded and taught about good and evil by the best minds in the nation. The people of Paradise are an integral part of this education.
Full of twists, turns, suspense, and of course deep religious parallels, I recommend this book :)"
"Firstly, let me say that this is a very strange book. My little brother heard from a friend that it was about giant pink worms. He didn't believe it, but when he asked me if it was true I couldn't deny that it was indeed about giant, pink, slimy worms. It's much deeper than that though, and is about much more. This book is dripping with meaning in an almost CS Lewis-like fashion. It is very much a story of sin, sacrifice and faith. But beware that it is a little weird. Great though."
"This one is linked in a huge way to The Circle Trilogy. READ THE CIRCLE TRILOGY FIRST. This is the first book (of 3) in The Paradise Novel series and doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you don't know what Thomas Hunter went through in the desert. This book outlines an experiment in the mountains of Colorado the ultimately leads to a Showdown of good vs. evil."
"Hmm... Well, this was a strange one. I had high hopes for it since I love a good vs. evil story, and it certainly was that, but it fell a little flat in places. I'm sure the oddities were meant to draw in the interest of the reader, like "Ooh, what's going to happen next?" or "What's the point of that? Maybe the next page will illuminate me." But the author fell short in some places so the oddities were just oddities, even with the understanding that it was doped up kids writing/creating reality. (Don't want to give anything too important away, so I'll just leave it at that.)
Overall, it was fairly good but I thought the ending should have been a bit more dramatic."
