"Marvel's Sentry is one of those super heroes more in the DC tradition than Marvel in terms of powers and look, a sort of Superman, but the similarities end there. What happens when the most powerful super-hero in the world, in the universe, suffers from severe mental illness? Well Marvel gives us the Sentry whose doubts and "Abyss" which temper his absolute power makes him resemble the Molecule Man, but without the "nerdy" baggage. This collection of stories about the Sentry have a wonderful meta-quality to them as the Sentry appears as a comic book hero within the comic book itself. It is very clever and entertaining and this collection is highly recommended. As always with Marvel, great art work to compliment the great story-writing."

"This volume of The New Avengers collects the series' story arc about The Sentry. Apparently The Sentry is a superhero who was retconned into the Marvel universe in a recent miniseries that hinged on a hoax about a character named "The Sentry" that was created by Stan Lee before he created any of the other superheroes who've grown into cultural icons, like Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four. It was a hoax because, well, he didn't. The character of The Sentry was created solely for the metafictional miniseries.
These issues of The New Avengers either recycle that story or continue it poorly. Not having read the original miniseries, I don't know which it is."
"Reprints New Avengers #7-10 and New Avengers: Most Wanted. The New Avengers try to deal with the problem of the Sentry and question who he is. This is a great illustration of can't leave well enough alone. I loved the original Sentry series. It was interesting, unique, and had a great pitch (no...this hero really existed...ok we made that up...or did we?) The New Avengers took that story and wrecked it. Then they add the added insult of bringing in the Sentry writer as a comic book character! That is a pretty poor plot device if it isn't done correctly (see Adaptation for a good use of character within their own narration). New Avengers: Most Wanted just lists the and profiles the villains who escaped from the Raft."
