About this title: Berlin 1942 When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance. But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy ...

"I bought this book because I had seen the movie and thought that the book would be a fascinating read. As one would expect, the book's story is different from the movie storyline. More detail is found in the book because the movie had to telescope some of the book scenes into a single movie scene. It is very interesting to read because the author tells his tale from young Bruno's perspective and through his innocent eyes, which makes it more powerful than the movie (which was disturbing enough!). The ending is entirely different from the movie — well, not "entirely" entirely. The two boys still are ruthlessly exterminated."
"As I began reading, I thought, "Oh, this is a children's book," but as it had been lent to me by a friend, I pressed on. Soon, I was thoroughly involved and had a hard time putting the book down. The combined innocence of the title character and the German boy who befriends him provides sharp and touching contrast to the reality of Auschwitz. Ironic, poetic, thoroughly satisfying. I will never forget this story and have since bought copies for friends."
"This book has been published in many countries, and has proved to be a story worth reading. The author did a wonderful job of telling the tale of 2 little boys with very different lives. A moving, but sad, book."
"The book was much more explicit about the
whole extermination process in a place infamously known as Auswitz extermination camp and that tthe whole extermination process was carried out by people who were practically the same as those who were being exterminated. The book does agood job of attempting to explain the Holocost through the eyes of an eight year old boy."
