"We follow Captain Alatriste and Inigo to the battlefields of Spanish Netherlands as Catholic Spain tries to kill some piety and loyalty into the Protestant rebels.
With less of a plot then the earlier books, it mostly revolves around several battles. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the portrait of the fearsome, honorable, and aggrieved Spanish infantry and found my tenuous historical understanding of the Low Countries somewhat improved."
"I like this series. I like Pérez-Reverte's writing style. But this one had no overarching plot to tie it together. Inigo Balboa chronicles the war in Flanders - and that's it."
