Anthony Eden by Robert Rhodes James.I enjoyed this book.I had a view of Anthony Eden based on teenage memories from the time of Suez.I saw him simply as a one-dimensional imperialist. The biography revealed him as a complex sensitive man with a great kindly streak.perhaps the intensity of his reactions to people and events unfitted him for managing crises. His parental background explained a lot about him.He transcended as much as he could of his background and conditioning,Lacking the guile of a Macmillan his hypersensitivity ended his politcal career.
I was glad to see that his years in retirement were happy.I strongly recommend this book.
