A little gushing gore, a few scares, lots of suspense and some adventure. Carpenter has a knack for bringing you into the story and making it believable. His characters have a feel of realism and the story line is salted with enough facts and general beliefs to make just enough sense in your suspicious mind to give you the shivers.
