Back when it aired on Disney, Lizzie McGuire was every teen girl's little secret... it was the show kids loved to make fun of (why? I have no idea), but everyone watched it. Although I mark this movie as kind of a turning point of young girls' taste in television (since it has to do with desire for stardom and glamor and singing), I also find this movie incredibly entertaining.
Lizzie was just so innocent, funloving, and real. Naive, but that basically defines the typical teen girl. It's something that's not really seen in today's TV, but something that reminds us that teens are still kids too.
The show touched all the struggles of growing up, and this movie, though random (Lizzie didn't really sing on her show), was just plain fun. Plus, Italy was just plain beautiful.
I'd recommend it for the young teen girls just for a feel-good time. It takes a possible reality (girl struggling to fit in and up her image in the face of the judgmental junior high school crowd) and turns it into a dream. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. But what's the point in being real all the time if it's not any fun?
