This book is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read.
Though carefully told, with plenty of facts, place descriptions, historical background, and photographs of the families connected to this crime, there came forth in this reader a feeling of persistent dread, which held me in its cold grasp right through to the very end of the book.
This is a story I will never forget, and a story that will haunt me in the night, in the dark, for many years to come.
As a Missourian, I am fascinated by the stories of those who have made their lives in this state, and a modern day urbanite and insurance man, the author, brings this tale of an earlier small town, to which he himself is connected, into the glare of the present. That glare, however, cannot pierce the dreadful gloom and horror of this story!
I recommend it for all readers of all ages, except perhaps the very young.
Thank you, Alan Terry Wright for this contribution to Missouri's history and for telling the poignant and fearful tale of this unsolved murder.
