Seller's Description:
VG-some minor staining and scuffs on wraps, general wear but no tears. Pages excellent. Gold and black wraps with bw illustrations. Cut-out title page. 23 pp. Bw and color illustrations. "In 1914, in Paris, on rue du Mont-Cenis, I made my first collages. They were very different from the Cubist papier-coles. All that remains of these collages are the small photos my brother took of them. Through Herbin, who lived nearby at Place Ravignan, at the Bateau-Lavoir, I met Leonce Rosenberg, of the Galerie l'Effort, 19 rue de Beaune. He was interested in my collages and spoke vaguely of a contract. Events destroyed these uncertain projects. These collages were static, symmetrical constructions, pathetic porticoes of vegetation, the entrance to the realm of dreams. They were made with colored papers in flat blacks, oranges, golds, and blues. Although Cubist paintings interested me greatly, no trace of their influence could be found in my collages."-translated from introduction.
