Another adrenaline-soaked, needle-buried-in-the-red thriller from Mark Greaney.
The Gray Man novels are unequivocally the best action series out there.
The pacing and action are so incessant that you'll find yourself wanting to come up for air, but you'll have to hold your breath because you won't be able to put the book down!
Court Gentry, the Gray Man, is an assassin. He's ex-CIA. Now a singleton operator. He has a moral code. He will only kill righteous targets. Bad men for good reason.
He has been living of the grid for seven months after being shafted by his compatriots on his last mission in North Africa. Now an SOS (shoot on sight) directive has been issued by the CIA on him...again.
He thinks he's found a safe place in a village in Brazil in the Amazonian rain forest. He works doing underwater salvage and keeps a low profile. The villagers asked no questions.
But a manhunter sent to kill Gentry finds him and what follows is a 25-page pulse-pounding escape through the jungle. The story takes off from there. Wow.
When Court discovers that the manhunter was dispatched by his former employer, Russian mafia kingpin Gregor Sidorenko, Gentry plans to pay him a "visit"
On the way out of South America he learns that his friend, Eduardo "Eddie" Gamboa, has been murdered in Mexico. Gamboa was a Major in the federales tasked with putting down drug lords.
He had saved Court from a Laotian hellhole a decade earlier, so Gentry heads to Mexico to pay his respects to the man's family.
Once there he finds out that Eddie was killed by cartel leader Daniel de la Rocha, that the whole country is corrupt, and that Eddie's family is in danger.
When things go bad, they get worse and when things can't get any worse...they do.
But no one can kick ass out of hairy situations better than the Gray man.
And, believe me, the nail-biting situations and action are non-stop.
Court Gentry is pulled into a war he never wanted but damn if he'll back down.
He will protect his friend's family. Even if it means going.....BALLISTIC! (less)
