Seller's Description:
12mo. Tan cloth with brown lettering and device, pictorial dust jacket. 280pp. Fine/very good. Jacket lightly edgeworn. Wonderfully handsome, bright and tight first edition--so noted "War Edition"--of the first of a dozen titles by this American mystery writer (1901-76). Weirdly, inexplicably scarce: Being the first title by an unknown author and coming in near war's end, perhaps sales were abysmal and the publisher pulped many copies--don't know and this merely speculation. The fact remains that copies in any condition are rarely seen and appear as scarce as hoot owl teeth. By far Rutledge's scarcest title in first edition with d.j. present and her only title of WW2 vintage.
