Gerald Hammond, himself hunter and dog lover, describes the scottish countryside in such a way that the readers feel as if they were there. Lively dialogues, often with a touch of humor, interesting characters, and thrilling intrigue make reading of this book fun, which is true of each book from "John Cunningham" series I have read. The first title of the series is "The Dog in the Dark", where you learn how John founded his kennel.
