Original publisher's elegant cloth binding in silver grey with maroon facsimile signatures & gilt underline. Hugo Laurenz August Hofmann von Hofmannsthal (1874&endash; 1929) was an Austrian prodigy: a novelist, librettist, poet, dramatist, narrator, and essayist. Carl Jacob Burckhardt (1891-1974) was a Swiss diplomat and historian. He was League of Nations High Commissioner for the Free City of Danzig (1937&endash; 39) and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (1945&endash; 48). In 1954, he was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Very good indeed in very good dust jacket. Dust jacket has slight nicks and a closed tear.
