This is an exceptionally brilliant performance in wonderfully clear and deep audiophile sound, and like Janowski's previous release on PentaTone of the Symphony No. 3 in D minor, the reproduction offers rich tone colors and crisp details, thanks to clear separation of parts and the spacious multichannel sound. Perhaps here, more than in any other Bruckner symphony, the separation of parts is critical to appreciate the marvelous effect of the staggered fanfares in the first and third movements, and to understand the echoic effects Bruckner intended.
