A bad Indian, a mountain man outlaw, and an underground river of gold are the ingredients for this tale of the desert. Callaghen is another of L'Amour's Irish as they come characters you will either love to hate or just plain hate as he does and acts rather outrageously at times. But that is Louis L'Amour at times. Overall most of his books are good enough to read and get enjoyment out of them. This one is well worth reading, but not as good as his early work by any means. This one comes near what I describe as his most productive and creative period, and it shows in his writing. His early stuff is the best; the last things he wrote the worst, as I believe he was being pushed to write and write and write for Bantam so they could make more money.
