While the themes in Chiggers are pretty run of the mill: cliques, social acceptance, clashes between new and old friends, the characters are refreshingly three dimensional, and while I don't think the graphic novel is a format that lends itself to ultra-complex characters (Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis being a notable exception) I did appreciate the fact that in some cases Larson's characters went against expected stereotypes.
