Surely there are people who grew up in perfect homes, the kind they used to show on TV in the 50's. Like 'Father Knows Best.' Perhaps you are one of them, in which case this book will be of interest only as a window onto the crazier world that the other 90% of us live in.
Life is a wonderful, crazy, challenging place. People, especially parents, don't always figure out the best solution to every problem. And that's ok, it works pretty well none-the-less.
This book, while specifically aimed at adults who are in relationships with alcohol and drug abusers, covers a lot of ground. Many people not in such a relationship still experience mild versions of many of the self limiting codependent behaviors that this book addresses. And for those who are or have been in such a relationship this book is at least revelatory, and possibly life saving.
How do you set boundaries? How do you take care of yourself? How do you deal with abusive behavior? How do you deal with abandonment? Codependent No More addresses these and allied issues, providing clear thinking and practical advice about how to navigate some of the most challenging problems in interpersonal dynamics.

Insightful
Until I read this book I did not realize how codependent I was. I had totally lost touch with myself because I was so worried about controlling everyone else. It explains what codependency is and how to detach from the object of our obsession. Than it explains how to learn the art of acceptance. After reading this book and looking back at it I have found I have half of the book highlighted. To me that means I really got a lot out of it!
