This is probably one of the most recent books by an entomologist that is helpful to anyone interested in finding out what pests are bothering their fruittrees. In fact, I"ve seen this book used as a reference by those who make a living counseling commercial apple growers. The photography of insect pests is spectacular.
Weaknesses, I would say include not following the same format for every insect described; for example, under monitoring does not provide emergence information as to (G)rowing (D)egree (D)ays for all insects for which this information is available. Most importantly in controlling these pests the author relies on the use of chemical spraying. Chemical spraying has to end to protect the insect population, which includes natural pollinators; they will be all that is left to pollinate fruit and vegetables when the honey bee eventually disappears.
Finally, the author wrote this book basically on his experience in Michigan. The pest troubles vary for the different fruit growing regions. Growers should not frightened so as to expect trouble from all the fascinating insect pests mentioned in this book.
