Using this book you can learn how to give the illusion of transparency, glow, irridescence for example, with opaque flat paint.
The exercises are absorbing and relevant, and there is much you can learn here to use colour skilfully in applied design or art.
His "Color Perception in Art" is this book, distilled, briefer, and is very good too. Relevant colour illustrations, no coffee-table nonsense.
