Very Good+ René Ariza nació en La Habana, Cuba, en 1940 y falleció en San Francisco, California, en 1994. En 1947 ganó el premio de la UNEAC (Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba) por su obra teatral *la vuelta de la manzana*, libro rarisimo de coleccion y un año más tarde fue finalista en el concurso de la Casa de las Américas con su pieza dramática *El banquete*. Fue también actor, poeta y narrador, caracterizado por una técnica y un estilo vanguardistas durante las décadas de los 50 y los 60. Tras el cierre de puertas por parte del gobierno de su país (1971), fue condenado a ocho años de prisión y su obra inédita fue destruida. Exiliado en 1970, "sacó el miedo a la superficie; era un anciano que había recorrido la espiral del infierno". En este libro, Alejandro Lorenzo recopila sus mejores relatos y traza una semblanza de su vida. La obra nos ayuda a redescubrir a uno de los mayores valores literarios de Cuba y a un espíritu libre que, a pesar de los injustos abusos que sufrió-y que lo condujeron a una muerte prematura-, logró hacernos reír y reflexionar.
