R. Talbot Kelly. Good. Beautifully colour-illustrated travel work on Egypt from British painter and author Robert Talbot Kelly. In publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Delightfully illustrated with seventy-two colour plates, including the frontispiece. Collated, complete. Lovely contemporary inscription from a previous owner to the front free endpaper, dated May 1909. Two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Beautiful illustrated travel work from painter and author Robert Talbot Kelly. Kelly spent close to thirty years in Egypt, becoming fluent in Arabic and writing and painting on the people, scenes and culture he saw there. This he compiled in the present work, first published in 1902. He continued to publish similar volumes on Egypt, and later Burma, throughout his life. In publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Lovely contemporary inscription from a previous owner to the front free endpaper, dated May 1909. Externally, smart with slight to moderate bumping and rubbing, resulting in fraying and a few small tears to the spine head and tail and minor loss of cloth along joints and edges. Light marking, more prominent to the rear board. Internally, generally firmly bound with slight weakness to rear hinge and at regular intervals throughout text, including to pages 51, 81, 113 and 144-145, binding becoming more fragile to pages 178-179 and to the plate facing 206. Light sporadic spotting throughout, more significant to endpapers and first and last two pages. Good.
