Longer ago than I'd care to admit, I was an ardent fan of fingerpicking acoustic styles. After admitting that I'd never progress as a self taught guitar player, I hunted for a teacher. Fourtunately, at Indiana University in Bloomington, there were a number of them. I settled on Greg Hildebrand, now residing in Australia. He introduced me to this book. I was delighted with the selections that Happy Traum made and transcribed. Piece after piece answered technical and performance questions that I had. There's also a range of difficulty to challenge beginner and intermediate player alike. Many years later, I've sent this updated book to other players. The new expanded version has transcriptions of pieces I've longed for. "Angie" for example, is a tune I've despaired of ever finding in print. It's here, together with a wide range of other genres and styles. The print layout and explanations are clear and concise. Fingering difficulties are explained clearly. There's also a GITAB (guitar tablature) line running underneath the regular clef to provide fretting information. In short, there's something for everyone in this book, from beginning "guitar players" to experienced "guitarists."
