FUNLAND is one of those rare novels that grabs ahold of you and doesn't let go long after you have turned the last page. The characters - even the background ones - are well fleshed out and almost seem to come to life. Laymon infuses new blood into the Carnival/Sideshow horror genre with his tale of young teenagers hunting down derelicts and punishing them as a form of retribution for having harmed one of their own. There is a very thin line between good and evil in the book. The heroes act more like villains and it is difficult to decide who are the REAL victims; the teenagers or the derelicts. This is DEFINITELY one of Richard Laymon's greatest books!! And a damned good read!!
