Soltis wrote this book several years ago, but it is an excellent work on the concepts and thinking process behind endings. Typical chess endings books show the mechanics (Fine, Averback, Smyslov, etc). Soltis walks the reader through the process rather than the memory to build a desire to be able to do well in the ending. Read Capablanca's thoughts on endings first as a primer to this wonderful work which is complimented by the companion book on chess openings.
