This novel is about ocean racing, the people who man the large, expensive boats capable of withstanding harsh weather and heavy seas, and the (usually) corporate sponsors who keep them going. The race is long and exciting and the novel equally so.
This is one of the best novels I've read in a long time. Unlike a lot of modern so-called "thrillers," which are, in many cases, terribly boring and predictable, this novel kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The list of characters at the front of the story prevented any confusion I otherwise might've had with such a large cast of characters, and all the major characters were distinctly different. This book epitomizes what a thriller should be: realistic and exciting.
