"This volume serves two purposes: First, this foundational text can be used to guide graduate-level study across a broad range of disciplines, including developmental psychology, developmental psychobiology, prevention science, family psychology, pediatrics, sociology, human ecology, anthropology, and related fields. Second, this text can serve as a practical resource for researchers as they navigate common methodological challenges in these fields. The editorial team (Teti, Cleveland, Rulison) selected chapters based on the editors' own experiences training and teaching developmental scientists at multiple institutions of higher learning. The field of developmental science has evolved considerably since the last edition of this volume. This volume reflects that evolution, as for example with coverage of intensive longitudinal designs, experience sampling methods, and adaptive and in-the-moment developmental interventions. Also covered are technological advances that now enable more ecologically valid and high-intensity measurement across micro time scales. This 2nd edition attempts to do justice to these developments, as well as maintain a focus on the foundational topics and methods in developmental science to help readers understand and weigh available alternatives when planning and conducting research. Chapters refer readers to other resources as necessary. Like the 1st edition, the 2nd edition is geared toward graduate students in master's and doctoral programs in developmental science and related fields, along with the faculty and researchers who teach them"-- Provided by publisher.
