I enjoyed this book very, very much. There are some real good stories about the old West and the newer West in this volume. All of them first saw light in the numerous magazines which published "western" during the 1950's. Such as Ranch Romances, Western Romances, Leading Western, Western Novel and Short Stories, and Thrilling Ranch Stories. That in no way lessen their value and appeal for me, as I like these kinds of stories. I am a "traditionalist" when it comes to what westerns I read. And good romance is necessary....Elmer Kelton cut his teeth and learned his trade writing short stories. Here he learned how to write; and what the reader wanted to read. These stories have characters such as a rodeo clown, a strong woman, and bandits. It doesn't get much better.
