I like the look of the Head First books and the style helps make the subjects interesting. However, if you're one of those people who get hung up as your eyes pass over spelling and grammatical errors, this book will slow you down. Most of the errors do not affect your understanding of the content, but there are a few that you will have to puzzle out. Having noted this issue, the book overall is a good walk through of the process, techniques, and issues you will run into if you want to be a web designer. This is not just a technical book - it approaches the topic from a career viewpoint. Given the breadth of the topic, no single book is going to cover everything. There are other books in this and competing series that cover specific topics in detail like AJAX and CSS/HTML. I recommend this book with the caveat noted above and the additional note that the price doesn't seem to have fallen much for used copies.
