wonderful basics
Laurie Colwin's Home Cooking is a down-to-earth, literate guidebook for all those who enjoy cooking. She includes wonderful basics ("How to Fry Chicken" and "Chocolate," for example), along with articles full of clever advice ("How to Disguise Vegetables" and "Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant"). I love Ms. Colwin's writing and will keep her books forever.
